Dear Willem
My team, part of Field Technology & Analytics at Elections Canada, had planned to deliver your automation coordinator training over the coming weeks in the form of remote classroom sessions, from our offices in Gatineau. The decision to do this from ECHQ (instead of our current work-from-home situation) involved a number of factors, including access to systems and confidence that this would avoid technical challenges interfering with the training.
Unfortunately, with the number of Covid-19 cases increasing and local and provincial public health measures rapidly evolving, the decision has been made that our team would not be going in to the office to do the training.
Instead, we are asking ACs to complete a course of independent learning, a self-study program. You will still have 30 hours to complete the training, which consists of modules accessed through EC’s Virtual Training Centre (VTC). You will have slide shows, quizzes, reading and exercises to complete at your own pace, by the end of February.
As you proceed through the modules, my team will be monitoring the work and will be available to answer questions, provide more in-depth explanations as appropriate, and possibly hold small-group tutorials. You are expected to ask for help from FTA if you come across information that you have trouble understanding. You can in any event expect to hear from FTA in the course of the training as we follow your progress.
We will begin the program the week of January 25th, and roll it out in waves to ensure that we can provide the required level of support. Many of you have already provided your availability for training and this information will help us determine when you will be provided access to the VTC.
We will provide more details about the program and what to expect in the next few weeks, and you will then receive an email from the EC Field Training team with instructions for accessing the VTC. We will mail your Automation Coordinator’s Manual to you as soon as possible (the print job is still in progress).
